Christmas is the best time of the year as it brings together family, friends and loved ones. It's the end of the year break where we get to relax, release the shackles of pressures of school, work, dieting, exercising, studying and relax and enjoy each other's time and company.
And even though the Christmas period and build up may seem hectic and busy and there's always loads to do, Christmas Day itself always seems so calm, peaceful and it feels like for a few hours the world is quiet.
To sum up the importance of Christmas and what it means to me, I quote a line from one of my favourite Christmas movies, 1988 Scrooged.
"It's... it's the one night of the year when we all act a little nicer, we... we... we smile a little easier, we... w-w-we... we... we cheer a little more. For a couple of hours out of the whole year, we are the people that we always hoped we would be"
The quote is so true, it's the one time of the year where we're nicer, more charitable, more understanding, forgiving and at peace with one another. Which makes you wonder, why do we wait until Christmas time to be the people we hope to be, is it we are free from the stresses of every day life, or have we been programmed into believing Christmas is the time of year we need to be nicer.
This is why I'm blogging about Christmas in January. Christmas shouldn't just be a one day of year thing, it should be a feeling we bring with us all year around and to quote Scrooged again;
"I get it now! Then if you GIVE, then it can happen, then the miracle can happen to you! It's not just the poor and the hungry, it's everybody's who's GOT to have this miracle! And it can happen tonight for all of you. If you believe in this spirit thing, the miracle will happen and then you'll want it to happen again tomorrow. You won't be one of these bastards who says 'Christmas is once a year and it's a fraud', it's NOT! It can happen every day, you've just got to want that feeling. And if you like it and you want it, you'll get greedy for it! You'll want it every day of your life and it can happen to you. I believe in it now! I believe it's going to happen to me now! I'm ready for it! And it's great! It's a good feeling, it's really better than I've felt in a long time. I, I, I'm ready. Have a Merry Christmas, everybody."
